UFS Joins the Community Bankers Association of Illinois,
Breaking Through the Cheese Curtain

By Tom Szews
Regional Business Development Manager

UFS is thankful and proud to be approved to join The Community Bankers Association of Illinois, becoming a member in August 2018.

Christopher Soyke, Director of Marketing and Business Development, believes that UFS is aligned with the community bankers of Illinois.  “Our mission is to help community banks thrive. UFS is intertwined with community banking. One thing that makes us unique is that UFS has only Community Banks as customers, not big banks, not credit unions or any market other than community banking. Only when Community Banks thrive can UFS thrive. CBAI is committed to the future of Community Banks, a mission UFS shares.”

UFS was created by Community Banks in 1991 and grew only by referral through 2016. Chris started working with Illinois banks in 2017 and a number of the banks with whom he worked with suggested that UFS join CBAI.

Tom Szews, Regional Business Development Manager, has been asked to help Chris with the work he started and focus on the state of Illinois. “With headquarters in Grafton, WI, just north of Milwaukee, and an office in O’Fallon, MO, it makes perfect sense to spend time in and get to know the Illinois community,” Tom said.

While UFS is a very recognized brand in Wisconsin, and we have customers in Illinois, Missouri, and elsewhere, it seems that the Wisconsin bankers don’t know any Illinois bankers very well.” Growth by referral literally stopped at the state line. “There appears to be a cheese curtain that separates the two banking communities. Joining CBAI is a great way to support the Illinois community and to understand the unique issues that each bank in Illinois encounters. ” Tom said.

UFS is excited to be part of the Illinois Community and is committed to helping Illinois Community Banks thrive.

About UFS: UFS was founded by community banks for community banks, and our charter requires us to be owned by community bank customers. That unique perspective keeps us aligned as we provide purpose-built solutions to ensure community banks thrive. For most of our history, we grew though referral to supporting nearly 30% of our Wisconsin home state banks, and are now sharing our community with banks from Nebraska and Arkansas, to Minnesota and Illinois. Our customers look to us to provide reliable, flexible, and best of breed technology solutions that help them thrive. A proof point for our success is that we have never lost a customer outside of acquisition. People are the heartbeat of our company, we’ve had minimal voluntary turnover in recent years, and we attract passionate bankers to our mission driven vocations.
